In recent years, there has been a significant amount of attention given to the concept of organizational resilience across the business continuity industry. Much of the debate has focused on the principles and practice of organizational resilience, and how this relates to the established business continuity management discipline.

As the leading membership body for business continuity practitioners globally, we wish to add clarity regarding the position of business continuity in the context of organizational resilience and also provide the BCI’s perspective on how the development of resilience concepts may impact on the practice of business continuity.
The BCI’s stated purpose is “to promote a more resilient world”.

We also hope that it helps to move forward the future development of organizational resilience concepts, beyond definitional debates, towards a collaborative understanding between participants across many management disciplines.

About Business Continuity Awareness Week

The BCI has a wider purpose than serving the needs of its members. We have a mission to explain to the wider community how BC works and how you can implement it in your organization. Our vision is to work towards the delivery of resilient societies, by developing resilient organizations. Many of our research papers and tools are freely available on our website, and each year we have a specific initiative… ‘Business Continuity Awareness Week’. The aim is to provide additional resources to organizations as well as opportunities to engage with the BCI and to consider the challenge of delivering business continuity. This year the theme is ‘Working together to improve organizational resilience’
