"The world of Business Continuity (BC) is fast changing, although for some professionals, especially those in the world of public sector Emergency Planning (EP) it is seen as a mysterious sector known only as a bolt onto EP. Building organizational resilience within a public sector setting is difficult and is often met with a ‘we don’t need this’ or ‘it will never happen to us’ attitude. Emergency Planning is always easier to sell to the busy working professional – it is seen as the sexy side of the industry where flashing police cars whizz up and down the motorway and the coastguard helicopter is ever present. Business Continuity on the other hand is less glamorous; a power loss in their building, illness affecting their staff or a cyber-breach of their ICT."
