"I work for Scotland’s largest local authority; having come from the private sector some five years ago. Along with my first degree, my initial foray into the world of work and Investment Banking had pre-conditioned me to have quite an insular view of organisations, their responsibilities and indeed, their priorities. Needless to say, my first few months at Glasgow City Council were something of an eye-opener - the size, scale and scope of the city’s day-to-day operations were, and still are, breath-taking. There was also the awareness of the magnitude of our social responsibility and the importance of continuing our operations in order to deliver the services and functions that citizens are entitled to, at a level of service they expect. In this way, local authorities are a unique landscape in terms of organisational resilience, by means of the duty placed upon them to continue to deliver critical aspects of their essential functions, at all times."
